Roll Press Generator

Design & 3D Print Clay Embossing Rollers

A clay texture roller is a cylinder with a raised pattern on its surface that embosses a repeating design into rolled slabs of clay, fondant, or polymer. 3DPlotter lets you design one from a pattern library, a built-in icon, or your own SVG — and export a 3D-printable STL or 3MF file ready to print on any 3D printer.

Available in the Creator Bundle alongside pen plotting, string art, and wax seal tools. 18 seamless patterns, 80+ curated icons, and SVG/image upload.

How It Works

From pattern choice to finished clay roller in four steps.

1
~1 min

Choose Your Pattern

Pick from 18 seamless pattern generators (diamonds, hexagons, waves, Celtic knots and more), 80+ built-in icons, or upload your own SVG or PNG. Every pattern tiles seamlessly around the roller.

  • 18 procedural patterns: geometric, organic, cultural, texture
  • 80+ curated icons: hearts, stars, flowers, animals, symbols
  • SVG upload for vector logos and monograms
  • Image upload (PNG, JPG, WEBP) with automatic seamless detection
2
~2 min

Dial In The Geometry

Set the roller diameter, length, and relief depth to match your clay slabs. Configure how many times the pattern repeats around the circumference and along the length, with adjustable gaps between tiles.

  • Diameter: 20–70mm
  • Length: 20–100mm
  • Relief depth: 0.5–4mm for subtle to bold impressions
  • Independent horizontal and vertical repeat counts
  • Tile gap control for negative space between motifs
3
~30 sec

Add The Axle Hole

Instead of printing a solid handle, the roller exports with an axle hole through its center. Pick a size (4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm) to match a skewer, pencil, dowel, or custom rod.

  • 4mm — bamboo skewer
  • 6mm — pencil or thin dowel
  • 8mm — standard wood dowel
  • 10mm — thick handle for heavy slabs
  • Watertight manifold mesh, no support material needed
4
~30 sec + print

Generate & Print

Export as STL for any slicer or 3MF for Bambu Studio. The live Three.js preview shows exactly how the roller will look. Print in PLA, PETG, or resin — then insert a rod and start rolling clay.

  • STL export for any slicer
  • 3MF export for Bambu Studio one-click printing
  • Real-time 3D preview with 96-segment mesh
  • Export mesh adapts to size (up to 1000+ segments)
  • Typical print time: 1–3 hours on FDM

Features

Everything you need to design print-ready embossing rollers.

18 Seamless Pattern Generators

Diamonds, hexagons, waves, chevrons, Celtic knots, Greek key, arabesque, scales, leaves, basketweave, bark and more. All patterns are procedurally generated and tile perfectly.

80+ Built-In Icons

Curated icon library across 10 categories: hearts, stars, nature, flowers, geometric, animals, seasonal, food, symbols, travel. Click to use — no upload required.

SVG & Image Upload

Bring your own logo, monogram, or texture. SVG uploads render at full resolution; PNG, JPG, and WEBP work too. Non-seamless patterns can be auto-converted to tile cleanly.

Adjustable Tiling

Control how many times your pattern repeats around the circumference and along the length independently. Add gaps between tiles for breathing room.

Axle Hole For Any Rod

Export the roller with a clean through-hole at 4, 6, 8, or 10mm. Insert a bamboo skewer, pencil, dowel, or custom rod as the handle — no printed handle needed.

STL & 3MF Export

Universal STL for any slicer, or 3MF pre-configured for Bambu Studio. Watertight manifold mesh with adaptive resolution — no non-manifold edges, no repair required.

Live 3D Preview

Three.js preview shows the roller in real time as you tweak patterns and dimensions. Orbit, zoom, and auto-rotate to inspect every angle before exporting.

Smart Heightmap Processing

Patterns are rasterized to a 1024×1024 heightmap with bilinear interpolation and adaptive Gaussian blur — smooth slopes that print cleanly on FDM without visible layer terracing.

Built-In Pattern & Icon Library

Every pattern and icon is tuned for clean embossing — seamless tiling, printable slopes, no repair needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I 3D print a clay embossing roller?

Yes. PLA and PETG both work well for clay embossing rollers. PLA is the easiest and prints at high detail. For very fine patterns or deep relief, resin (SLA/DLP) gives the crispest edges. The roller exports with an axle hole so you insert your own rod as a handle.

What material should I print the roller in?

PLA is the default choice — cheap, easy to print, and the clay won't stick to it if you dust with cornstarch or talc before rolling. PETG is slightly more durable. Resin works for ultra-fine patterns but is more fragile. Avoid flexible filaments.

Does the roller come with a handle?

No — and that's intentional. The exported STL has a clean axle hole through the center (4, 6, 8, or 10mm). You insert your own rod: a bamboo skewer, pencil, wooden dowel, or custom metal rod. This keeps print time short and lets you replace just the roller sleeve when you want a new pattern.

Will my pattern tile seamlessly around the roller?

All 18 built-in patterns and 80+ icons are designed to tile seamlessly. For uploaded images or SVGs, the generator detects seamlessness automatically and offers a one-click auto-convert for non-seamless images. You can also control the horizontal and vertical repeat counts independently.

How deep should the relief be?

For fondant and soft clay: 0.5–1mm. For standard polymer or earthenware clay: 1.5–2.5mm. For bold impressions on thick slabs: 3–4mm. The generator shows a warning if your chosen depth exceeds 15% of the radius (which risks collapsed walls during printing).

What roller sizes are supported?

Diameter: 20–70mm. Length: 20–100mm. The most common size is 40mm diameter × 60mm length — compact enough to print in under 2 hours on a standard FDM printer. The export mesh automatically scales its resolution to match your roller size.

Why does the 3MF file say "not from Bambu Lab"?

That warning appears in Bambu Studio for any 3MF file not created by Bambu Studio itself (including files from Fusion 360, OnShape, and PrusaSlicer). It's just saying "we'll load geometry only" — the file is valid and slices normally. You can safely dismiss the dialog.

Can I use my own logo or pattern?

Yes. Upload any SVG (for vector logos and monograms) or PNG/JPG/WEBP (for photo-based textures). SVGs are rendered at full resolution so fine details stay crisp. The generator preserves the real-world aspect ratio of your image so it doesn't stretch when wrapped onto the roller.
